Our history

The Crown Building is one of the most remarkable buildings in the Habsburg City. There is evidence of an inn here since the 16th century.

    "L'ALSACE"

La Couronne has been classified as a historical monument since 1935. Its Renaissance style, symbol of the most sumptuous period of this era in Alsace or in the second Renaissance, and its particular cachet comparable to the Maison des Têtes in Colmar, from which its architecture is strongly inspired, make it one of the remarkable buildings of Ensisheim. Above the entrance door, one can read the letters MDCX in Roman numerals which attest that the hotel was built in 1610.

1675

January 5, 1675, the day before the battle of Turckheim. Marshal Henri de Turenne would have stayed at the Crown.

1830

Armand Carrel, a member of the secret society of the Charbonnerie, would have led a plot within the inn.

2009

Jean-Marc Pflimlin took over the establishment until 2011.

2017

Reopening of The Crown.
